Tara L. Swall Honored as a Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year
PALOS VERDES ESTATES (September 25, 2020) The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District is proud to announce that Tara L. Swall has been recognized as a “Teacher of the Year” by the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE).
Tara began her career with the District in 2007, working with students with special needs and has not stopped serving students since. Currently, Tara oversees the District’s Transition to Independence (TTI) program which provides life skills, job training, and work placement for students between the ages of 18-22 years with special needs in partnership with local businesses.
Originally from Kansas, Tara came to California and began teaching in 1985 with L.A. County schools. She created and lead programs for the County, including high school classrooms targeted for students with autism. Over the years, she has come to love working with the students and families as they develop their independence. Tara has dedicated her career in PVPUSD to students, helping TTI students develop the skills necessary to be successful in life beyond the school program. Tara states, “Nothing makes me happier that seeing the success that my students have…that’s the magic.”
Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss commented, “We are so proud of Tara and this award, she truly deserves this recognition for her commitment to students and her program.”
Tara Swall will represent PVPUSD at the County’s virtual awards ceremony on October 1, 2020 at 4:00 pm. This ceremony is the largest regional platform to celebrate teachers in the state. The event will be broadcast on the LACOE Facebook and Instagram pages.
