TENTATIVE AGREEMENT WITH CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES
District and California School Employees Association, Chapter 123 Reach Tentative Agreement
March 20, 2019 (PALOS VERDES ESTATES) -- The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District (PVPUSD) and the California School Employees Association (CSEA), Chapter 123 have completed work on a tentative agreement for a three-year successor contract effective for the term of July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2021, PVPUSD Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss and CSEA President Joan Lewis jointly announced today.
Joan Lewis, CSEA President said “thank you to both bargaining teams for honoring our employees and the work they do to support students and families. Negotiations provides a process for both parties to come to agreement with respect and improves cooperation throughout our organizations”.
Dr. Alex Cherniss, PVPUSD Superintendent shared, "Our classified employees are an integral part of our schools and this tentative agreement is something we can all be proud of.”
“Our relationship with CSEA has never been stronger,” Board of Education President Linda Reid said. “We appreciate so much the work that hundreds of classified employees do every day that benefits our students, whether they are working directly with them, or working behind the scenes to support their learning. The Board is grateful to both our negotiating team and to the CSEA team under Ms. Lewis for reaching this agreement.”
The tentative agreement includes a two percent on-schedule raise retroactive to July 1, 2018 and an additional $500 toward employee health benefits. The agreement also includes changes and updates of contractual language to align with current laws.
CSEA is comprised of over 1200 PVPUSD district classified employees, which includes: student services, maintenance and operations, food services, clerical, pre-school and technology staff and other district support staff. CSEA members will vote on the tentative agreement in the coming weeks. If approved, the new contract will then be voted on by the PVPUSD Board of Education at a regularly scheduled meeting.
